SUMMARY: The Direct Care Worker provides supervision and guidance for the individuals who reside at the Agency by performing the following duties.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: The MH Technician must be a high school graduate or the equivalent but preference is given to college trained individual with background in child development, psychology, education or a related field.

Vital Duties:  Duties the employee may be required to perform that have a major impact on the delivery of services to our clientele

  • Supervision of the individuals which includes:
    • Ensuring individuals follow agency and program procedures.
    • Knowing the individuals locations at all times.
    • Following schedules
    • Using behavior management techniques in a professional manner when required.
    • Using appropriate counseling techniques to assist in the clients treatment
    • Interacting with the resident's in a respectful manner that is appropriate for the situation.
    • Knowing and functioning within the framework of the resident's Treatment Plan.
  • Documentation of important information and data in a timely and professional manner as prescribed by the unit/program supervisor.
  • Passing Medication to residents at specified times.
  • Fulfilling the duties of Night Watch when scheduled to do so.
  • Fulfilling purchase orders
  • Light duty cleaning on the weekends
  • Responsible for weekly medication checks
  • Updating contact lists weekly
  • Running fire drills on a monthly basis
  • Planning unit activities with the assistance of the Counselor 3's that are:
    • Designed to work on areas identified in the individuals treatment plans.
    • Creative and not repetitious
    • Posted in a timely manner.
    • Following Agency Policy and Procedure when planning therapeutic activities
  • Level 3 Techs will be required to provide Supervision of the staff in the absence of the supervisor which includes: ensuring everyone follows agency and program procedures, knowing where people are at all times, being aware of possible problems, implementing and participating in activities, following schedules, being alert to safety issues and ensuring the individuals receive basic care - adequate food, clothing, rest, shelter and are well groomed.

PROBATION EXPECTATIONS: Must demonstrate during probation competencies in the following areas:

  1. Working with MH/MR Clients
  2. Working 3rd Shift
  3. Passing Medications
