SUMMARY: The MST Therapist is responsible for coordination of treatment for their assigned caseload by performing the following duties.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Preference will be given to individuals with a Masters Degree in counseling, social work, psychology and eligible for licensure in area of clinical training. Licensed professional and prior experience in a CASSP systems program preferred.  Highly skilled bachelor level professionals with a degree in a human service field and 3 years of experience working with children in a social service agency may also be considered. 

Preferred experiences include direct use of pragmatic (structural, strategic, and functional) family therapies, individual therapy with children and adults using cognitive behavioral techniques, marital therapy using behaviorally-based approaches, behavioral therapy targeting school behavior and academic performance, and implementation of interventions within or between systems in the youth's natural ecology that affect or influence the behavior of youth (i.e. family, peer, school, and neighborhood). 

Preferred knowledge includes family systems theory and application, social ecological theory and application, behavioral therapies theory and application, cognitive-behavioral therapy theory and application, pragmatic family therapies theory and application, child development research and its application treatment, and social skills assessment and intervention.

Vital Duties: Duties the employee performs that have a major impact on the delivery of services to our clientele 

  • MST initial assessments including review of referral information through the collection of frequency, intensity, duration and systems involved (FIDS), identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses/needs and genograms 
  • Identifying and engaging key participants and gaining their desired outcomes and developing an analysis of the fit of problem behaviors within the ecological context. 
  • Engage primary caregiver and other key participants in active goal/change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement and/or alignment. 
  • Implement a referral fit conceptualization, prioritize referral factors, intervention development, intervention implementation, assessment of advancements and barriers, outcome review and strategy revision procedure using the MST Analytic Process. 
  • Maintain clear and concise weekly documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer and supervisory review and feedback, and that demonstrate compliance with the 9 MST Principles and the MST Analytic Process.
  • Collaborate with all relevant systems and key participants within each system to ensure their buy-in and cooperation throughout MST treatment.
  • Provide direct evidenced based clinical treatment using methods compatible and accepted with MST principles and practices.
  • Maintaining a caseload of 4-6 families.
  • Adhering to the fidelity of the MST program design by timely completion of the following quality assurance measurements:
    • Development and Quarterly updates of Clinician Development Plan
    • Review of Clinician Development Plan monthly
    • Development and 6 month updates of Clinician Strengths and Needs Assessments
    • Bi-monthly taped clinical sessions related directly to the developmental needs.
    • Bi-monthly clinical session observed by MST Supervisor related directly to developmental needsMaintaining the average length of treatment between 120-150 days.
  • To display adherence to the MST model, Therapists are required to maintain a Therapist Adherence Measure-Revised (TAM-R) score of 0.61 or above.
  • Available for (2) hours of clinical supervision per week with supervisor.Available for (1) hour per week of supervision by the MST systems supervisor/Expert Consultant.
  • Seek consultation when necessary to discuss client concerns so that informed and MST sound treatment decisions can be made.
  • Preferred experience include direct use of pragmatic (structural, strategic, and functional) family therapies, individual therapy with children and adults using cognitive behavioral techniques (only as approved by MST Expert), marital therapy using behaviorally-based approaches, behavioral therapy targeting school behavior and academic performance, and implementation of interventions within or between systems in the youth's natural ecology that affect or influence the behavior of youth (i.e. family, peer, school, and neighborhood). 
  • Preferred knowledge include family systems theory and application, social ecological theory and application, behavioral therapies theory and application, cognitive-behavioral therapy theory and application, pragmatic family therapies theory and application, child development research and it's application treatment, and social skills assessment and intervention.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Preparing Weekly Case Summaries and Discharge Planning in regards to making recommendations with regard to treatment planning with clients and their families.
  • Ensuring that agency stipulated productivity levels is obtained on a weekly basis which is defined as 75% of each individual youths prescribed hours.
  • Coordinating all aspects of treatment for the clients and their families within their caseload in a professional and timely manner.

PROBATION EXPECTATIONS: Must demonstrate during probation competencies in the following areas: 

  1. Successful completion of 5 day MST orientation training
